Hello family!
We've decided to form this space so you could learn a little more about us, and more-so what we love to do! which is...design, create, and sell jewelry under our business, TenTrees Tribe!
First off, a little about these two pixie ladies:
Tenisha, was born in 1992 in Humboldt County, to a redheaded 17 year old single mother. This taught her to be a strong force at a young age, which, in one way or another has taught her a lesson or two - but, overall has been a great thing. She spent most days as a child at her grandmothers, catching salamanders, sketching and coloring, picking blackberries, making jam, planting sunflowers, biking and roller skating up and down the block, and making friends with every kid..and adult..all the way from the blackberry patch to the cold-a-sac 5 blocks up the road. Between her protective mother and her free hippie grandmother, she found a fine balance and has carried it all through out her life. Life was pretty much blackberries and sunflowers (and backyards) until...mother decided to move to good ol' Sacramento. Entering High School, Tenisha hated it..completely and totally. It was a new life in a new city, something of the unknown. A little too uncomfortable at first. Things were this way for about a year, until she really found her way, then the rest was history. The weeks were filled with school and hanging out at the nearest Carls Jr. after school, everyday - and the weekends were filled with parties, raves, booze, and boys. Although, she wasn't really one to indulge in the boys, or the booze. She just loved to dance and embrace the feeling of people coming together to express themselves in such a way! Life was great, but during this time she witnessed a lot of boys-breaking-my-best-friends-hearts, best-friend-acting-retarded-from-drinking, and parents-have-your-whole-life-planned-out scenarios. No freedom. By the time graduation came, she was outro! She left the very next day, riiiiight back up to good ol' home-based Humboldt, moved in with Tree and family during the summer and...well..never went back. That's when life really began!
Tree, was born in may of 1993, to your typical, but not-so-typical in the outside world, Humboldt hippie parents. She grew up loving having her own veggie garden next to her parents in the mountains of Southern Humboldt. On a typical day she would run around the property playing with her dog Resha, whilst wearing nothing but a sun hat on. During these early years, she took a few trips to Hawaii and Costa Rica. By age 6, Tree moved off the mountain when her parents split. She began living in Trinidad and Southern Humboldt, splitting the week to spend time with both. In time, the separate families grew and are now blessed with three wonderful sisters. Tree took a few trips to Mexico with her dads side, to London, Prague, and Budapest with her mother. Within all the traveling and moving around, Tree went to Big Lagoon Charter School - tucked away in the woods on a lagoon, and within walking distance to the beach. This school helped shape her into the nature animal loving free spirit she is today! Suddenly, at about 7th grade, Tenisha's & Tree's mothers met and became very close, and by Trees 8th grade year, they were moving to Sacramento. Yes, this was at the same time Tenisha and her mother did. Since Tree spent her life at small hippie schools, moving into a confined huge school with no one on one love, well... was not even close to her liking. She tolerated (if even that) living in Sacramento for a while, buuuut eventually had to bounce back to Humboldt for High School. For this lifestyle was not for her. Surrounding herself with the most artistic silly stoner friends of Humboldt and living life to the fullest in the free-ist of ways, was more-so her niche. She took a photography class in 10th grade, and fell in love with the art this year. Tree was fortunate enough to travel to Bali that year with her childhood friend, Jahsri, who was born there. Learning about this whole new culture and living the lifestyle, was truly life changing for her and opened her eyes to wonder what else is really out there. This was the beginning of Tree wanting to explore a whole lot more of the world than just tiny little Humboldt. Tree entered the Arcata Arts Institute in 11th grade and was immersed with art and design, being around like minded people was more than inspiring for her. At the end of this year, the Arts Institute put together a fashion show where Tree and other students had their designs shown. This experience of designing opened a whole new window for her as well. By her senior year she was yearning for some more exploring, and always being the free fairy she is, of course her wings were more than ready to fly!..so what did she do to enable that? She entered a program to graduate school early, worked her butt off, and got that diploma! Aaaaannndd...fly!
